UGLYVILLE is a Noir-inspired Young Adult novella.
The front cover should be in the dramatic style of classic hand-painted Film Noir movie posters (see pics). Specifically, I want it to be a darkly attractive young man (age in 30s) holding a sultry young woman (early 20s) in his arms. I would like her lying back, as if he's holding her up (see couple in TOUCH OF EVIL pic).
She should be wearing a vintage strapless gown, green or blue. He should be in a white button shirt, its sleeves rolled up, its collar unbuttoned to reveal a bit of bare chest.
She looks a lot like movie starlet Rita Hayworth, especially the strawberry blonde hair (see pics).
He looks like a cross between a broody Marlon Brando and a boyish Tony Curtis (see pics).
The title UGLYVILLE should be written in some classic Noir font, along with just my name SAWNEY HATTON.
I prefer you don’t use stock images, but if you do please make sure they are free use and can be used for commercial purposes .
I need both a version for the ebook (front cover only), and a full cover version for the print edition (front cover + back and spine).
Here are the ebook image specs for Amazon.com KDP, which you should follow:
Kindle Direct Publishing accepts two types of files for cover images
JPEG, or .jpeg
TIFF, or .tif(f)
Requirements for the size of cover art:
--Ideal height/width ratio of 1.6
--For best quality, image should be 1563 pixels on the shortest side and 2500 pixels on the longest side.
--Cover image must be less than 50MB
Product images display on the Amazon website using RGB (red, green, blue) color mode. Remember that the cover should look good as a thumbnail, the book title and author name readable.
For the print edition, the back cover text will read:
Meet Verona Cassidy.
Dysfunctional. Delusional. Disturbed.
When the 15-year-old misfit sees the strikingly handsome garbageman outside her bedroom window, it's love at first sight. But love doesn't always look back the same way.
That won't stop Verona from winning his heart... at any cost. Sometimes people get used. Sometimes people get hurt. Sometimes people die.
Presented by acclaimed author Sawney Hatton (Dead Size), UGLYVILLE is the story of dark deeds and pathological passion, about how far this fille fatale will go to have her Hollywood ending.
The look of the back cover should blend well with the front. Also add the MEGA THUMP logo and the barcode (both on the bottom).
Size of print book will be 5.5" X 8.5"
Spine: I am not yet sure of the page count, so let's estimate 200 pages. This means you should design the spine to be .4504" in width (200 multiplied by 0.002252); this will most likely have to be adjusted when I determine the final page count.
The spine should include the book's title UGLYVILLE and "Sawney Hatton"
The full cover will be delivered to the printer as a single PDF that includes the back cover, spine, and front cover as one image. (Flatten all layers in the native file.)
The printable area must be:
--Measured exactly to the book's trim size, spine width, and .125" bleed (bleed of .125” is required on all sides. The bleed at the bottom of the page must not exceed .125”; there should be no "live" elements within .25” of the trim lines.)
--Centered horizontally and vertically
--300 DPI image resolution recommended. Higher resolutions are acceptable.
Cover Width: Bleed + Back Cover Trim Size + Spine Width + Front Cover Trim Size + Bleed (in this case= 11.7004")
Cover Height: Bleed + Book Height Trim Size + Bleed (in this case= 8.75")
From the winning designer I would like a jpg of the front cover, a pdf of the full cover, and the graphic files you used to create it (preferably in Photoshop or Illustrator)
If you have any questions, please ask. Have fun!
