We are using the cover to help sell the book. It is both exciting and a story of a young woman's path to self-discovery. Our goal with the cover is to get potential readers to take a deeper look. It should arouse their interest in buying the book. To this end, we would hope that the cover would be emotional and exciting.
We have included a few photos that give some general ideas of the look we are going for. We don't love any these photos, they were just the best we could find on Google images.
Note: The kissing photo is great except that we do not want a couple kissing on the cover of the book. The other compositional elements are good though.
The photo of the woman with the blue top is me. I would like this included with the author bio on the back cover.
Elisabeth has been writing short stories for as long as she can remember. She was raised in San Diego, but it was her experience at U.C. Berkeley in the late 60's that led to her becoming involved in the anti-war movement. She remained in the Bay Area for many years, where she worked as a high school English teacher and now resides in Santa Cruz with her husband, David.
This is the book summary for the back cover:
Through a haze of drugs, rock and roll, and rioting in the streets, MaryBeth Malone never stops asking herself the most important question of her life -- Where do I belong?
Berkeley Girl follows MaryBeth on her path of self-discovery from a small, quiet L.A. college to the tumultuous campus of U.C. Berkeley in 1967. Through a twisted path of love affairs, student protests, a friend’s sad return from Vietnam and her boyfriend’s obsession with the draft resistance movement, MaryBeth searches for her own place in the world.
