We want the singular graphic that will appear on marquis, playbills, website and in lights on broadway. The name "Oink! A Pigsical" is prominent and the illustration may be woven into the name or accompanying it. We want a look that is very playful, bold and a bit eccentric. Oink! is the main word (can be all caps), and "a Pigsical" is the secondary. We'd like to see use a "Chick-fil-A" effect where it was supposed to be "a musical" but someone has crossed out the "mus" and replaced with "pig."
The show features 5 prominent characters - the three pigs, their mother and the wolf. Here's a little bit about each:
Peony (the mother) - eccentric, flowery, not-too-bright but very dedicated mom who is ready to have the kids out of the house. Think the flower-child of the pig world.
The Wolf - the big secret of the show is that the wolf is really Peony in disguise. Can't give it away, but good to know for the graphic relationship. As such, the wolf is out of shape, a little crazy and not too bright either. Keeps getting winded, but is also very menacing at times!
Pam Pig - the eldest piglet. Extremely practical and stalwart, but she does indulge in a little make-up now and then. She's building the brick house and she gets it all done and locked up tight during the show. She's bossy and fights with Peter (the middle) all the time.
Peter Pig - the middle child. He's artistic, sensitive and a little vain. He loves straw - it's his favorite fiber, but he can't focus enough to really build much of anything. He'd rather dance - and does so with a piece of his favorite fiber (straw!). His house begins and ends as essentially a pile of straw. He and Pam fight constantly and, often in this show, over a straw hat.
Paul Pig - the youngest and the Mama's boy. He's a complete nerd and is plans everything to the nines. He loves his Modern Architecture magazines and only gets to the blueprint and framing out with a few 2x4s of his house.
Without being too busy, we'd like to see indicators of the personalities in the graphic. One idea is to have pigs and wolf woven throughout the letters of Oink in various ways. Perhaps the straw hat hanging on a letter, some elements of brick, wood and/or straw. Maybe the leg of a dancing pig with a piece of straw. Maybe a tail with a ribbon. There is a huge chase scene with the wolf and that could lend itself to elements of a pig disappearing around letter, a wolf hanging over or a pig peeking from behind a letter and looking wary.
Another route is to have an illustration that will read from afar with the indicator of the 3 pigs and houses and Peony & the Wolf looking down or hovering over and the title and tag be a part of the image.
There are too many ideas here - just providing for creative spark!
We want a great font and we'll need to access it to add composer/lyricist information and keep consistency on the website. Looking at dafont.com and typing in "Oink! a Pigsical" some that catch the eye are Orange Juice, Comica BD, King Of The Hill, Timotheos (maybe). The Cartoon and Handwritten categories have several possibilities. We did the barest of looking here (too dangerous to lose hours and hours of time) - so you are free to expand on these suggestions.
