Hades United delivers digital artwork packages (literature, essays, painting, photography) every month for a year as a subscription service. The target audience are gift givers who would delight in subscribing a gift recipient to a service that delivers digital content that is sophisticated, erudite, edgy, satiric, progressive and philosophical. The defining characteristic of Hades United is the dark humor of the founder and main author, FJ Contreras.
I know how to use photoshop, so I would like a logo that I couldn't just do myself by picking a font and doing a quick play on letters. I want something clever, authentic, and creative.
Out of the types of logos I prefer Emblem and Pictorial Mark in that order. But in the end, I need an Emblem AND a Pictorial Mark designs for my website. Also, the emblem design cannot look like a sports team.
Hades = God of the Underworld; brother of Zeus and Poseidon. It's also the name of the underworld.
Symbols associated with Hades:
1) Cerberus, the three-headed dog who guards the doors of Hades (careful because it was also used in the Harry Potter series.)
2) The two-pronged scepter (but by itself is not very striking in a logo)
3) Hades tricked Persephone to stay one third of the year in Hades by giving her a pomegranate to eat. THIS IS THE PREFERRED SYMBOL.
4) Giver of wealth and riches (in this case, the visual arts and literature.)

NOTES FROM WHAT WE"VE LEARNED:
In regards to Hades the god, we've learned (the hard way) that depicting Hades is difficult. The only references we have are Greek and Roman statues, and those all look like Mediterranean men with thick beards. That makes the design too masculine and biases audiences to think of superheroes or Bible figures like Moses. So it's best to depict Hades in a way that is nuanced, suggested, shadowed, or with one of his other symbols (scepter or Cerberus, for example.)
