My father is Dr. Daniel Jenkins. We lost him suddenly in 2016 to a heart attack, and this foundation is in memory of him. My father taught the art of hospice care to countless medical students, nurses and residents over the last three decades. He believed that all patients should be eligible for the benefits of end of life care regardless of their ability to pay. In keeping with this ideal, the foundation was established to fund the needs of those patients requiring hospice care who are economically disadvantaged. (this could include denture or eyeglass repair, haircuts for patients at home, assistance with utility payment, or even a plane ticket for out of town family, etc.)
He was a wonderful human and an incredibly passionate physician, particularly hospice (or end of life) care. He was a bear of man - he had a huge presence, but also so gentle and warm. His patients felt so safe and comforted by him. His hands specifically were very distinctive. The first thing he would do upon walking into a patient's room is offer a warm, kind hand shake to his patient and asking them how they were. And then he'd proceed to do the same to all the family members in the room. His hands were those of a healer and a protector.
Another beloved quality about him was his humility and sense of humor. He became close to all the people he worked with, and his nickname was "Dr. J".
My family and I like the idea of the logo involving hands and/or "Dr. J", but other creative ideas will be appreciated as well.
Given the nature of the foundation, this logo will need to be fairly mature and reverent, but not too cold or sterile or serious. The foundation is meant to be a sense of comfort and relief during a difficult time of life.
