STEAM for us, is:
This is a science fair on steroids. Arts fair on espresso. We'll have everything from Drones to crochet, and from robots to nerdy derby (pinewood derby).
You can look at information on the web for maker faires and STEAM carnival to get some more ideas..
We are in the rocky mountain region, however, we don't want to use mountains in the logos as we want the STEAM fest logo to be good for any region.
If you visit http://www.steamcarnival.com you will see an example of a great "icon" logo for their STEAM event. We like the concept of the five areas being connected and intertwined. Part of our core value is the interconnectivity of those five areas, rather than those five areas as unique, separate concepts.
We would like the logo icon to be clear in black and white and also in a color version. Winning designs will include suggestions for a color palette to complement the logo for the total logo.
We would like the logo icon, and the title (Rocky Mountain STEAM Fest) to stand alone, so we can use the logo icon for favacon, and other separate uses.
If components of the logo icon could represent the areas (i.e. an image for science, and image for tech, etc.), that might be the best of all worlds, but we realize that it may not be possible to preserve those (see the steamcarnival.com logo for an example of the small icon with no detail, and a large image with the icon detail).
The "tone" of our event is:
nerdy / geeky
a little irreverant
We prefer earthy rich tones over bright pure tones. (for color palette)
Our parent company is http://www.MakerBoulder.com. This event logo does not need to match MakerBoulder logo, but it would be good if it didn't clash!
