Authors children's story books
Was ist Ihre Vision?
We have a series of children's story books that need an illustrator. The books are aimed at 3-7 year olds. With a toolkit full of dimples and dreams, Mosh & Fang are a couple of playful yowies tussling with the small problems of childhood, inadvertently solving a few not so small problems along the way. Their energy is boundless, their silliness warming, their fears innocent but ever so real. (Especially when they wake to find their dimples have disappeared.) In their home town of Mishmashblather, the two pudding-like furballs are much admired, everyday heroes. Their citations are many. They’ve managed to save ice cream from becoming extinct. They’ve conjured up a rocket to haul stars back to the sky after an accidental boiling of the ocean. They’ve baked a cake of skyscraper proportions and survived a bee attack when floating on a handful of balloons above Bonker Plonker Oval. Family is central in their lives. Their adoration for their Mum is boundless. It’s little wonder given she wields a broom able to sweep up their bad dreams for immediate disposal in the bin. On her falling pregnant they lather her belly with so many kisses that their baby brother, Podge, breaks the scales on his arrival, bloated with love. Their Grandma Googlyboogly , meanwhile, is wild and wonderful, supervising a bubblystrophic bath which requires a fire response unit to get it under control. In total, the Mosh & Fang series includes: • The case of the disappearing dimples • The day ice cream became extinct • Bad dreams go in the bin • The problem with boiling the ocean • Double bubble trouble • Such a tummy cake • Balloons sleep on beanbags • The importance of kissing Podge Initially our aim is to print 2 or 3 of the books as personal family gifts. We have an editor in Australia editing them as we speak. Further in the future we will look to self publish and promote more widely. We have a tight deadline of 20 October to have at least 1 book complete. They are short books between 400 and 600 words in length. I have some examples of previous drawings of Mosh and Fang however they weren't suitable for the 3-7 age group. We need something cuter, cheekier and friendlier looking. You are free to be as creative as you wish. I am only sharing the previous drawings as we like the sketching style. Illustrators we like in terms of style are Oliver Jeffers, axel scheffler, Gabriel Pacheco and William Joyce.
Here are a couple of the books (unedited) to give you an idea of the stories. The case of the disappearing dimples starring Mosh and Fang Mosh and Fang’s morning wake-up began with quite a fright You see their dimples had disappeared, suddenly, overnight It seemed they’d walked right off their cute little cheeks Our two furry monsters were gobsmacked, barely able to speak There was not a single clue as to their whereabouts So they’d condemned those dimples guilty of becoming runaway louts Soon enough Fang despaired, “How dare they run away from my face? These furry, chubby cheeks are their home; a perfect pleasant place.” Mosh butted in, “Don’t they know that I’m the boss. If they don’t hurry back here I’m going to get so cross.” “They’d better hut-to, and do a dimple double march The smile strike’s officially over, it’s time to stop this farce.” Yes indeed, our boys had worked themselves into quite a state Their anger and frustration was proving quite difficult to sate. With what calm they had left they commenced a search At the top of the staircase mad little Mosh took his perch Meanwhile furious Fang scrambled from room to room Desperate to find those dimples, and find them very soon First he checked the bathroom, the toilet, bath and sink To see if they’d been flushed away, a plight he dare not think Then he checked the laundry, the washer, dryer and the basket But he just couldn’t find those dimples; he was tired, he was past it The search went on regardless, the kitchen the next stop But no matter the door they opened, the hunt was but a flop These dimples, you see, had most certainly disappeared Grumpy faces forever had now become their greatest fear Tears began to roll down their faces as they thought of life without a smile They’d be so sad forever, living life on the lonely mile It was then that their Mummy appeared having heard all the fuss Wondering how she might help her boys deal with such a crush “Mosh, Fang, why all the tears my sunny little monsters? What ever happened to my mighty team of funsters?” In unison they replied, “Mummy we’ve lost our trusty dimples Without them it seems our life is no longer quite so simple.” “Our dimples were our trusty friends to ride through any grump, Our tools of choice to pick ourselves up from any scratch or bump But this morning they’ve deserted us and a frown’s now in their place This worried brow just won’t do if we’re to be full of fun and grace.” It was a story Mummy smirked at, in fact she found it comic Because for their woes she knew there was a very simple tonic “My gorgeous boys don’t worry about the dimple disappearing act, Just replace your frown with a smile, the cure’s as simple as that. Dimples just can’t run away and leave your face forever, If you plan a life of laughter and fun, it’s a bond you just can’t sever.” And with those easy words of wisdom Mummy began to tickle Till laughter filled the room and they realised dimples just aren’t that fickle. Bad dreams go in the bin starring Mosh and Fang Fang had gone off for his afternoon’s sleep When all of a sudden he started to weep “Oh my,” he cried to the polka dot wall, “I just saw a monster 4 metres tall.” Just moments later in the drawer next door Mosh gave a gasp and dropped to the floor “Oh my,” he cried to the black and white striped wall, “I just saw a monster 5 metres tall.” “You should have seen his eyes, like the teeth of a tiger, And his big, bad claws were mighty fists of fire” “That,” scoffed Fang, “is nothing compared to mine, He had a thousand knives on his knobbly spine” “He could curl himself into a big, bad wheel, And cut me in pieces with his razor sharp steel” And so they went on with their one upmanship Till their imagination had them both scared to bits They were shaking and weeping with such despair They’d even stopped trusting their own Teddy Bear The room became flooded with frightened tears, With shrieks so loud they wanted muffs for their ears The walls of fear were closing in on their room “Mummy,” they shouted, “Please come in with the broom!” You see their Mummy had taught them a very special thing Quite simply, that bad dreams belong in the bin They could create monsters or half gremlin snakes Or bats or spiders sipping blood thickshakes Or perhaps big, bad bogan moths that eat all your hair Or even a troll that prowls under your chair Whatever they are, these creatures we fear They must be picked up and dragged by the ear So in walked dear Mummy, she began to sweep To give poor Fang and Mosh the chance to sleep She made a big pile of all those wicked foes Up she swept them, from their heads to their tails to their toes And from them grew a new pile, of magical friends With adventures and stories with beautiful ends And tales of sucking on sweet lollipops And upsidedown slides and pink raindrops These friends bring you fluffy clouds that snuggle up to you So that when you wake you’re not feeling blue Go now, race, put those bad dreams in the bin Sleeps are so much better when you grin from within. The Importance of Kissing Podge starring Mosh and Fang (and, of course, Mummy & Podge) When Mosh and Fang came home from the pool one day Their Mummy had something special to say: “My boys, I’m growing something inside my belly, A little baby brother with a heart as soft as jelly.” Well, the boys ran like water with excitement to their mother As she set out a few rules that needed to be covered: “This bump will grow best each day with a kiss, You see love is the ingredient baby brothers can’t miss.” So they gave their word they would slobber her tummy every day To grow a little brother, Podge, with whom they could play And that is not all that they promised at that moment, “Mummy, we’ll help much more! We know it’s important!” They decided that as they waited for their baby brother thing To compile a to-do list, which together they began to sing: “We’ll mind our manners, follow all instructions Be good for Mummy, we pledge a ‘naughty thing’ reduction Help her with little things, like eating our dinner Or brushing our toothy pegs, now that’s a winner Dress quickly for school, after making our bed Don’t munch on chips, have fresh fruit instead Listen very hard to everything we’re asked Growing a baby is a very important task But most of all we’ll pucker up to little Podge Millions of kisses are what we will lodge.” True to their word, that’s how they behaved week after week While their brother played the longest game of hide and seek And for those kisses, little Podge developed a thirst He was growing so rapidly it seemed Mummy’s tummy might burst For forty weeks he fed on kisses and hugs Wrapped up like a ball, all cosy and snug Till the day arrived when it was time for Podge to pop out When he made his entrance, Mosh and Fang let out a shout: “Mummy he’s gigantic, he’s larger than us Now we see why love is such a big fuss It can make you so much bigger than you can dream yourself to be, Love is the most special ingredient in life it would seem.”
